Sway 2
This artwork is on a gessoed panel measuring 298 mm by 298mm.
It is an abstract landscape painting inspired by a beautiful woodland close to where I grew up called Langdon Hill in Dorset. The painting has a real sense of motion… it is as if the trees are dancing.
It is an unusual colour combination but I feel the colours “pop” when next to each other.
Delicate mark making on the trees give the painting a visual as well as actual texture. It is as if light is reflecting on the trees which is also reminiscent of the energy they give out. The mark making activates the artwork.
The viewer has endless subtleties to discover including hand pressed natural motifs.
Nature is often where we retreat to in order to find restoration and peace. I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that nature is the original muse.
The benefits of forest bathing are now well known. Time spent in the forest boost our immune system and reduce feelings of anger, anxiety and depression
As with art making, spending time in nature is meditative. It’s being present with all our senses.
