Beneath the Watching Trees (Orange)

Beneath the Watching Trees (Orange)

This artwork is on a gessoed panel measuring 298 mm by 298mm.

It is an abstraction of a woodland scene. A myriad of orange and peach trees against a violet background.

Delicate yellow mark making on the trees give the painting a visual as well as actual texture. It is as if light is reflecting on the trees which is also reminiscent of the energy they give out. The mark making activates the artwork.

The painting is cradled in a white bespoke frame 322 mm by 322mm.

The woodland is almost superimposed on a dramatic angular hillside by the sea. The inspiration for this abstract landscape being Langdon Hill in Dorset which overlooks the magnificent Jurassic coast with the highest point being Golden Cap.

Nature is often where we retreat to in order to find restoration and peace. I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that nature is the original muse.

Principles of colour harmony are derived from nature. Just look to nature to find colours that feel restorative, colours we want to surround ourselves with.

The benefits of forest bathing are now well known. Time spent in the forest boost our immune system and reduce feelings of anger, anxiety and depression

As with art making, spending time in nature is meditative. It’s being present with all our senses.

I hope this painting brings you to a place of tranquillity and peace.
