Every now and then you see an exhibition that takes your breath away. Anselm Kiefer's Finnegan's Wake at The White Cube is one such exhibition. There are fields of rubble and wire, the DNA helix, the Ouroboros snake that eats its own tail, concrete and copper.
For most people sunflowers are a joyful flower. For me they have a very sad connotations so it was strangely cathartic to see these skeletal sunflowers and gigantic canvases depicting eery looking sunflowers painted with incredibly thick paint.
Saving the best until last, the next room is filled with mammoth canvases steeped in gold and copper. There are unreadable books of lead scattered on the floor. The whole room is filled with the scent of oil paint as if it has only just been finished. There are beautiful inscriptions such as "The river felt she needed salt".
Tired of London and you're tired of life? I will never tire of London and all the wonderful art is has to show us.
